SIS vs ERP

A Student Information System manages student records alone; an ERP connects those records to finance, HR and every other institutional function.

A Student Information System (SIS) is typically scoped to student records — admissions, attendance, grades — while an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system connects those same student records to finance, HR, examinations, transport and compliance reporting in one unified data model. Institutions that start with a standalone SIS often later need to integrate it with a separate finance or HR system, which an ERP avoids by design.
