Four-Quadrant Model
UGC's official framework for structuring digital learning content into four parts: e-Tutorial, e-Content, Discussion Forum and Assessment.
The Four-Quadrant Model is the structure the University Grants Commission (UGC) recommends for e-content used in Indian higher education, originally developed for SWAYAM and MOOC-style courses. Each learning unit is built from four components: Q1 — e-Tutorial (video lectures, audio and simulations introducing the topic), Q2 — e-Content (e-books and research resources for deeper study), Q3 — Discussion Forum (structured peer discussion and doubt-clearing), and Q4 — Assessment (MCQs and online assessments that close the loop on the unit).
An LMS built around this structure by default, rather than treating it as an optional add-on, is generally what institutions mean when they describe a platform as "UGC-compliant" for digital learning content.
