Rollout Approach

IBM, acting as a key facilitator, brought together Pearson — a global leader in education, media and publishing — and Sonet Microsystems to address significant operational challenges within Pearson's growing network of acquired schools in India. Pearson, renowned for brands like Longman, Financial Times and Addison Wesley, aimed to deliver world-class education through its diverse educational offerings, but the acquisition of schools with varied existing operational practices meant a standardized, scalable technology solution was needed to maintain that standard of educational excellence.

The Challenge

Diverse Operational Practices

Pearson's strategy of acquiring existing schools across India introduced a range of operational practices, each unique to the institution it came from. This diversity created inconsistencies in educational delivery and administrative processes that made group-wide governance difficult.

Need for Process Standardization

To ensure uniformity and maintain the high educational standards Pearson was known for through brands like Longman, Financial Times and Addison Wesley, the group needed standardized processes, practices and policies across every school — crucial for effective governance and consistent quality control.

Centralized Management

Pearson needed a centralized system to manage its expanding network of schools efficiently. The lack of a unified management approach hindered effective oversight and made operational streamlining across the portfolio far harder than it needed to be.

Our Solution

eSSMS — Smart School Management System

IBM, acting as a key facilitator, brought Sonet Microsystems in to address Pearson's operational challenges directly. Sonet developed and implemented eSSMS, an advanced, cloud-based school management system built on modern web architecture and tailored specifically to the education sector, seamlessly integrating parents, staff and management into one unified platform.

Centralized Data Management

eSSMS gave Pearson a robust platform managing the entire student life cycle — from enquiry and registration through admission, fee management and Transfer Certificate issuance. This centralized approach ensured consistency and reliability of records across every school in the Pearson Group.

Comprehensive Reporting

eSSMS was equipped with flexible reporting tools that let Pearson generate detailed insight into the life cycle of both students and staff. These reports gave the group data-driven decision-making capability and enhanced operational transparency that simply wasn't possible when each acquired school reported independently.

Microsoft Dynamics ERP Integration

eSSMS was seamlessly integrated with Microsoft Dynamics ERP, providing real-time data synchronization back to Pearson's headquarters. This integration gave HQ instant access to critical information, enabling effective control and monitoring across the entire network of schools it managed.

Phased Implementation & Training

Sonet began with a thorough assessment of existing operational practices at Pearson's acquired schools, identifying the key areas for standardization and automation. The eSSMS deployment was customized to Pearson's specific requirements and rolled out in phases to minimize disruption, backed by comprehensive training for school administrators and ongoing support to optimize performance after go-live.
